"Variety in cooking is the spice of life."

Emmerich Ludwig Freuer "Culinary" Smurf is a Smurf character who who is part of the EMPATH: The Luckiest Smurf story series.

Culinary is born the only son of Maximilian and Frieda Smurf. During his early years as a young Smurf, he was raised mostly in the kitchen helping his parents as well as Baker, Bompastore, Vinetier, and their children with meal preparations. At around 50 years of age, Culinary lost both of his parents and was raised mostly by Culliford, who became Papa Smurf.

Culinary likes cooking and loves to describe every single detail of the ingredients that go into his dishes. Being a descendant of the Schlumpf clan, Culinary speaks with a German accent and normally refers to Papa Smurf as Papa Schlumpf. His favorite food is sauerkraut, which he often serves with a mushroom substitute version of knackwurst, with his favorite snack being soft pretzels with barley ale. When not busy in the kitchen, Culinary likes sharing his favorite recipes with his fellow Smurfs.

He is Greedy's kitchen helper and understudy who works mostly in the preparation of meals, sometimes filling in when Greedy isn't available, although he admits that he isn't the master chef that Greedy is.

Culinary generally appears wearing a chef's hat version of a Smurf hat and a full chef's outfit. He is rarely seen wearing anything less than that outfit.

  • Culinary is loosely based on Chef Smurf from the Smurf comic books.
  • The EMPATH: The Luckiest Smurf series author Vic George felt that there needed to be a German-accented Smurf in the cast, since he used to believe that the Smurfs came from Germany instead of Belgium.
