Moxette Smurfette (AKA "Moxie") is an original character in The Smurfs: Light and Dark. To see a full list of episodes in which she appears, please CLICK HERE.

Background Information

She has "a lot of moxie," according to Johan, which is what inspired her name. She was created by Peewit after he learned that female Smurfs could only be created through the Smurfette formula, but he changes or omits several ingredients while creating the formula. The most notable change was him substituting "the hardest stone for her heart" with purple pandyroot, which resulted in her having purple hair when she is transformed by the True Blue Spell.

Her first appearance is in the Season 1 episode, "Peewit's Smurfy Creation." Shortly thereafter, she gains her very own home.

Role in the Village

She is best known for her method acting as well as other comedic skills that Peewit taught her prior to her arrival in the Smurf Village. As time goes on, she attempts to broaden her skills by learning how to cook, sew, make home renovations, write, play an instrument, and tend to a garden. She does this to both improve her method acting skits and prove herself to be a more valuable Smurf in the village.

Relationships Within the Good King's Court

Moxette spent her first month of life secretly living in the Good King's castle.

The Good King

  • Season 1 -- While his majesty knows of the Smurfs and of Peewit having created a Smurfette, Moxette does not have any direct interactions with the Good King during Season 1. She is, however, in his castle for a brief time as a human being after being welcomed into the Smurf Village.

Peewit

She and her creator have a "father-daughter" bond despite her being biologically older than him upon her creation.

  • Season 1 -- Since the day she was brought into existence, Peewit has doted over her and makes her feel like she is the most amazing individual ever to exist, having taught her everything he knew in the month prior to Johan convincing him to take her to the Smurf Village. His genuine love and fascination over her is apparent through each interaction they share, and she reciprocates his sentiment. He is one of the most important persons in her life and she makes it known to her fellow Smurfs at every opportunity.

  • Season 1 -- After Johan's comment inspires her name and he gives her one of gold clasps from his cape that is used to create tiny clasps for her wardrobe, Moxette develops a crush on the knight and goes so far as to temporarily become human to pursue him. While this attempt fails, she retains her feelings for him.
  • Season 2 -- While Johan is under Gargamel's Heart of Darkness spell, Moxette still holds some romantic feelings for him, although to a lesser extent than the previous season. She works with her fellow Smurfs to find a way to break the spell in the hopes of him returning to his rightful home.

Relationship with Smurfette

Smurfette meets Moxette in "Peewit's Smurfy Creation."

  • Season 1 -- Smurfette does not appreciate being called "Blondie" at first, but she grows fond of the nickname and soon only allows Moxette to use it. Likewise, Smurfette was first to adopt the "Moxie" nickname from Peewit, which becomes a popular term amongst other Smurfs shortly thereafter.

  • Season 1 -- He was one of the first Smurfs to meet Moxette prior to her being transformed by the True Blue Spell, and they seem to have a never-ending struggle that usually results in one or both of them getting into trouble with Papa Smurf. She occasionally calls him "Four Eyes" or "Book Worm" while he is lecturing, but she will stand in Brainy's defense when other Smurfs suggest that they would all be better off without him.

Through the time Moxette spends with him (often with Brainy tagging along), she and Mystico bond over feeling like outcasts. After Vira breaks his heart, Moxette helps her fellow Smurfs retrieve a goblin from the past named Hethera in "Hethera the Goblin," and when the goblins' relationship blossoms, it also strengthens his and Moxette's friendship.

Trivia

  • Her personality is based off of her creators: Numbuh 404 (in reality) and Peewit (in the Fanon series). Initially, she was created to be Brainy's biggest pain in the neck because Numbuh 404 could not stand him, but as the LD storyline has progressively developed, he has become one of her favorite Smurfs. Moxette's growth and relationships reflect this change.
  • She is discovered to be left-handed by Brainy.
  • Her Creation Day is January 20th, meaning her zodiac sign is Aquarius and her birthstone is Amethyst. She is considered air-aligned. However, the Smurfs celebrate her Arrival Day in February in lieu of her creation being over a month prior to her arrival into the Smurf Village, upon which she was transformed by the True Blue Spell. Technically, she has two "birthdays" when compared to Smurfette and Sassette.
  • Her human form is similar to Falla's and was loosely modelled off of Numbuh 404's real-life former high school friend, Juliet King.
  • After learning about Smurfette keeping a diary, she obtained a lavender one for herself.
  • After some coaxing to try tea during one of Smurfette's tea parties, she has acquired a love of Smurfberry tea.
  • After trying her first Gingerbread cookie, she and Greedy develop "ginger snaps," inspired by Brainy. Like him, she likes her cookies on the spicier side.
  • In a non-canonical playwright, she is the character import for a human named Karissa Hendry with inspiration from the song "Opportunities (Let's Make Lots of Money)" by Pet Shop Boys.
