A shamrock is a three-leaf clover plant that grows rather plenteous on the Emerald Isle.

In the EMPATH: The Luckiest Smurf story series, the shamrock is considered a cultural symbol of the Ailill clan, which Tapper wears on his person at all times, though his is a four-leaf variant.
Sometime during Tapper's first visit to the Emerald Isle as an infant to cure his mute condition, his father Séamus Smurf was hungry and created a stew from shamrocks that he would have eaten if it weren't for his wife Molly Smurfette stopping him from doing so, realizing from legends passed down through the Ailill clan that shamrocks can turn whoever eats them into leprechauns. Tapper remembered this teaching well even as he and his fellow Smurfs ended up being lost in time when the Key Of Chronos was lost, and Greedy also made a similar stew from shamrocks for his fellow Smurfs to eat when they landed on the Emerald Isle during events of The Lost Year.
